Newly appointed members of High Level Panel on Water ready to start work

    The World Water Council is one of the organizations that provided impetus to the creation of  the Heads of State Panel on Water, launched in January at the World Economic Forum in Davos and continues to be closely associated with its work. On 21 April, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim announced the appointment of ten members and two special advisors to the Panel. The announcement, at the UN General Assembly High Level Thematic Debate on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, means the Panel is ready to start work.

    #ClimateIsWater looks to COP22

    The #ClimateIsWater initiative clearly brought water to the climate community at COP21 in Paris. Water was discussed at greater depth and in greater detail than at any previous UN climate conference. Now, #ClimateIsWater, coordinated by the WWC, is inspiring the groundwork for COP22. 
     

    Shaping approaches to climate resilience

    Collaborative thinking is central to shaping approaches to climate resilience. And water is central in mitigating and adapting to climate variability and change. The WWC and the Government of Mexico drew on influential, talented and inspiring experts worldwide to examine the role of water in climate resilience.

    Tribute to Raymond Jost

    The World Water Council pays tribute to Raymond Jost, founder of the International Secretariat for Water (ISW). Mr. Jost dedicated a great part of his life to water management and international recognition of the right to water and sanitation. With his passing away, the world loses a water activist and a strong personality in helping citizens worldwide. The World Water Council’s deepest condolences go to his family and friends.

    Council delegation meets Indian Ministers

    New Delhi, 17 March 2016 - A World Water Council delegation led by President Benedito Braga has been engaging extensively with the highest authorities within the Government of India. Meetings took place early this week with Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Railways, followed by close advisors to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sashi Shekar, Secretary of Water Resources, Nripendra Misra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and P.K. Mishra, Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
