Financing Water for Sustainable Growth

    “Water is a political issue and financing it will require convincing political decision makers,” stated the President of the World Water Council, Benedito Braga, during a standing-room-only event entitled “Financing Water Infrastructure for Sustainable Growth” organized Tuesday, 30 August, during this year’s World Water Week in Stockholm.

    World Water Council launches book on Climate Resilience in Stockholm

    The World Water Council, in cooperation with CONAGUA and ANEAS, have successfully launched the final product of their nearly two-year cooperative work. The scientific book entitled Increasing Resilience to Climate Variability and Change, The Roles of Infrastructure and Governance in the Context of Adaptation was presented during a session convened at the World Water Week in Stockholm.

    World Water Council to Co-convene a Seminar on Financing Water

    The World Water Council will be co-convening a seminar entitled Financing Water Infrastructure for Sustainable Growth during this year’s World Water Week in Stockholm.. The seminar, which will take place on Tuesday, 30 August, will share recent developments and discuss options to secure the appropriate level of finance for water infrastructure and water security solutions.
     

    African Ministers call for action on water and climate

    Over 600 participants attended the international conference on “Water Security for Climate Justice” in Rabat, Morocco on 11 and 12 July, co-organized by the Government of Morocco, the Government of France and the World Water Council. Announced at CoP21 last year, the conference aimed to raise political awareness for water within climate change discussions. “Water security needs to be considered in order to moderate the injustice of climate change impacts” stated Honorary President of the World Water Council Loic Fauchon in his keynote speech.

    Singapore Water Week: Council promotes sustainable urban water management

    On 12 July, during the Water Leaders Summit, President Braga participated in a session on “Raising the Water Agenda for Cities”. Stating that “water supply and sanitation is also key for social inclusiveness,” President Braga reminded participants that sustainable urban management includes an economic, environmental but also a social dimension.  Offering an equal service to every dweller, with the same water quality and availability, regardless of their background, is a prerequisite for urban social well-being.
