Launching of the Youth Delegates Program

    The World Water Council has launched the Application for its Youth Delegates Program for 2016-2018. After a competitive selection process, selected candidates will have the opportunity to engage in the World Water Council’s Task Forces, connect Youth to the 8th World Water Forum process, and other activities.

    Water in the New Urban Agenda

    This year, the World Water Council and other international organizations have been striving to make water a bigger focus of the conversation around cities. Notably, during last week’s UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), the “New Urban Agenda” was adopted in the presence of a record number of attendees. This outcome document, in which water is mentioned 28 times, will provide the transformative framework for the next twenty years of sustainable urban development.

    World Water Council leads the way towards increasing climate resilience through water solutions

    A deeply uncertain world calls for new approaches, advocates World Water Council, calling on governments to include water in global climate agenda.
    • On the road to COP22, the World Water Council in collaboration with Conagua and ANEAS launch a new evidence-based book to provide decision makers with solutions for adaptation plans to increase resilience and improve disaster preparedness. The strong connection between climate change and water requires water to be addressed within formal climate discussions, currently insufficiently evoked.

    World leaders Call for Action on Water

    Last week, the High Level Panel on Water, consisting of 11 sitting Heads of State and Government and one Special Adviser, issued a Call to Action for a fundamental shift in the way the world looks at water.

    The World Water Council at World Water Week 2016

    The World Water Council designed diverse and constructive interaction with the participants at this year’s World Water Week in Stockholm around the theme of “Water for Sustainable Growth.” In particular, the Council was a co-convenor of the day-long seminar on “Financing Water for Sustainable Growth” in cooperation with the OECD, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment of the Netherlands, the 2030 Water Resources Group, and SIWI.
