Council meetings gather members in Marseille

    Marseille, 28 October 2015 - The 53rd meeting of the World Water Council Board of Governors opened yesterday in Marseille. The WWC President Benedito Braga welcomed the 120 participants and emphasized in his opening address the importance of continuing to involve Council members in the implementation of its strategy in an open and transparent way. Indeed, all WWC members were invited to attend the meeting and participate in roundtable discussions on major issues for 2015: The 7th World Water Forum, Climate Change in view of CoP21 in Paris, and the post-2015 development agenda.

    WWC President speaks on water and energy at World Bank-International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting

    Washington DC, 10 October 2014 – “Wind, solar and hydropower are three renewables that have to go hand in hand,” said World Water Council President Benedito Braga at a panel during the World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s Annual Meeting, which opened this morning in Washington DC. “Rising to the Renewable Energy Challenge – Tapping the Potential and Doing it Right” was opened by Jim Yong Kim , World Bank Group President, and included high-level panelists such as Ram Sharan Mahat, Finance Minister of Nepal.

    Chinese authorities receive WWC delegation

    President Braga, Vice-President Altinbilek, and Bureau member J. Delli-Priscoli were received by Minister Chen Lei in Beijing last week in a step to renew the Council’s ongoing cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources of China. An extension of the Memorandum of Understanding concluded between the two organizations in 2009 was signed on Tuesday, 23 September, issuing in a new era of fruitful cooperation between the partners. 
     

    King Hassan II Great World Water Prize: Deadline for applications extended to 31 October 2014

    Jointly organized by the Government of Morocco and the World Water Council, the 5th edition of the King Hassan II Great World Water Prize will reward excellence or innovation in “Cooperation and sound management in the development and use of water resources.” The winner will be granted an award of US$100,000.

     
     

    President of Mexico greets World Water Council Governors

    26 June 2014, Mexico City, Mexico -  “Water has always been a priority in the agenda of the Mexican Government as an engine for economic development and to protect vital ecosystems,”  said World Water Council President, Benedito Braga, during the 52nd Board of Governors meeting, closed by the President of Mexico, H.E. Enrique Peña Nieto in his Presidential residence of Los Pinos.
