    World Water Council signs agreement with the Government of Qatar on Water and Food Security

    The World Water Council and Qatar National Food Security Programme (QNFSP) have signed an MoU, in view of the upcoming CoP18, which is to take place in Doha, Qatar, in December 2012. The aim of this collaborative project is to affirm the wilingness of the parties to develop a strong bilateral cooperation to advocate the need for every country to guarantee their water security.

    Council Elects New Board to Ensure Water Security

    Marseille, France, 19 November 2012 – The World Water Council today announced that its members have elected a new Board of Governors. The Board will oversee and guide the Council’s work for the coming three years. The elections took place during the triennial General Assembly for which 240 participants had gathered in Marseille, France. Through majority rule voting, the members elected the 36 Governors from 64 candidatures and the Governors unanimously appointed Benedito Braga to serve as President of the World Water Council.

    Reconstructing after Water Disaster: Council President Visits Japan

    In March 2013, the UN Special Thematic Session on Water and Disasters affirmed that “water and disasters” is one of the most important and pressing issues that the international community should address. In response, High-level Experts and Leaders met in a panel (HELP) on 3-4 June in Tokyo, Japan to lay the grounds of their mission.     Revitalizing IWRM

    The World Water Council Task Force on Integrated Water Resource Management will convene a High Level Panel on “Revitalizing IWRM for the 2030 Agenda” on Tuesday, 20 March at 16:30. Framed by the “Challenge Paper” of the same name published by the Task Force, the Panel will challenge water-resource policymakers to revitalise policy for IWRM and re-think IWRM strategies in an effort to deliver strong messages from the 8th World Water Forum on how to connect pragmatically water across sectors and across the SDGs.

    Parliamentarians for Water

    Water is a political issue and progress for water issues depends greatly on the will demonstrated by Governments. Mobilizing political support for water issues remains the World Water Council’s raison d’être. It is also at the heart of the World Water Forum’s political processes, which address political decision makers at every level. In particular, parliamentarians play a key role in establishing water-related legislation and national budgets for their implementation.

    From the 7th to the 8th World Water Forum: Three years of Implementation Roadmaps

    The Implementation Roadmap (IR) Special Session in the 8th World Water Forum will be an occasion for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Implement Commitment Champions and Core groups to share achievements and lessons learned over the last three years (2015-2018). In addition, it will be the occasion to launch and discuss the Final Report of the Implementation Roadmaps, following four interim progress reports. The IR stakeholders will also formulate potential political messages towards the 2018 High Level Political Forum review on SDG6, based on their own work carried out through the IRs.

    Bridging Water and Climate

    The World Water Council together with the Stockholm International Water Institute and The Alliance for Global Water Adaptation are co-organizing a High-Level Panel on “Bridging Water and Climate”, which will take place on Monday 19 March at 14:30. The event will discuss how the role of water and its ability to mitigate and adapt to climate change effects can be better acknowledged within official global frameworks and processes.
