The World Water Council takes part in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic
Following the City of Dakar donation, the World Water Council hands over a batch of soap to the Senegalese Ministry of Water and Sanitation.
As part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Water Council has contributed by providing soap to Senegal. Water and soap are the first barriers to protect against the spread of the COVID 19 coronavirus and the World Water Council has chosen to provide the means for a better hygiene to the most deprived.
Two batches of 37,800 bars of soap produced in Dakar were thus officially handed over to the Ministry of Water and Sanitation and the Dakar City Council. During the ceremony held on April 24, 2020, in the presence of Abdoulaye Sene, Executive Secretary of the 9th World Water Forum, Mamadou Dia, Governor of the World Water Council, representing President Loïc Fauchon, underlined that the city of Dakar will host the 9th World Water Forum in March 2021 as part of a partnership between the Republic of Senegal and the World Water Council. He welcomed the commitment of Serigne Thiam, Minister of Water and Sanitation of Senegal, to make the Forum a resounding success.
By making this donation, Loïc Fauchon, President of the World Water Council, illustrates his attachment for Senegal. Mr. Mamadou Dia added: "Loïc Fauchon has instructed me to tell you that all his thoughts are with the Senegalese people and he expresses the wish that Senegal overcomes this ordeal by relying on its formidable resources."
Minister Serigne Mbaye Thiam expressed his thanks to President Loïc Fauchon and the World Water Council for this highly appreciated gesture which will allow to respect the barrier gesture of washing hands with soap and water. Mr. Serigne Mbaye Thiam added: "In addition to the gift to the city of Dakar by the World Water Council, this donation illustrates President Loïc Fauchon's solidarity with Senegal. We renew our commitment to make the 9th World Water Forum as effective as possible, to become the Forum of Responses.'' This gesture of solidarity is part of mission of the World Water Council which raises awareness at all decision-making levels on the importance of access to water and sanitation for all.
Another batch of soap was handed over to the Dakar City Hall on Friday April 10, 2020. Ms. Soham El Wardini, Mayor of the City of Dakar, thanked Loïc Fauchon, President of the World Water Council, for this crucial and timely symbolic gesture. The City of Dakar, which has been twinned for over 60 years with the City of Marseille, is involved in the preparation of 9th the World Water Forum. Ms. Soham El Wardini estimated that the batch of soap will be very useful in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
