Strengthening Regional Partnership through World Water Cities’ Forum & Korea International Water Week 2024
The World Water Council (WWC) showcased its continued commitment to global water cooperation based on hydro diplomacy and horizontal approaches. WWC actively participated in the World Water Cities’ Forum (WWCF) and Korea International Water Week (KIWW) 2024, held from November 13-15 in Daegu, South Korea. Loïc Fauchon, through his video message at the KIWW opening ceremony, highlighted features of water challenges that are impacted by factors including climate, demography, urban planning, and population concentration and stressed smarter and wiser water management by embracing digital tools and innovative thoughts based on horizontal approaches of Five Fingers Alliance for water : Sanitation, Energy, Food, Health with political commitment.
Representing the Council, Prof. Ali Firdaus from Indonesia, who played a key role in co-hosting the upcoming 10th World Water Forum, participated in the WWCF alongside Prof. Ahmet Saatci from Türkiye, a former WWC Bureau member, who also took part in the signature programs of the KIWW 2024 including World Water Leaders Round Table, the World Water Partnership also the World Water Challenge.
The WWCF 2024, organized in collaboration with Daegu City and the World Water Council, served as a vital platform for addressing urban water challenges. The forum aimed to foster the exchange of actionable solutions among local authorities. The session that WWC moderated by Prof. Ali was dedicated with the theme of panel discussion “Measures for Enhancing Urban Water Security to Address the Climate Crisis.” with ten cities including Daegu, Mikkeli, Kumamoto, Manila, Kathmandu, Ho Chi Minh, Goa, Phnom Penh.
