Korea International Water Week 2018
"The Korea International Water Week is well placed to become a long-term development platform for Asian countries by establishing Korea as a key player providing scientific and technical solutions", declared the President of the World Water Council, Benedito Braga, at the opening ceremony of the 2018 edition, which was held from 12 to 15 of September 2018. Focusing on the theme ‘Water Partnership for Sustainable Development’, the event aimed at designing concrete and feasible implementation of solutions.
Represented by President Braga and other members, the World Water Council actively participated in two key events: the Water Leaders Round Table and the World Water Partnership event.
The Water Leaders’ Round Table (WLRT) focused on designing Action Plans for water solutions. Participants adopted a comprehensive declaration, called the “WLRT Action commitment 2018” following up on the results of previous editions. The goal of this leading high-level dialogue was to strengthen water cooperation for sustainable development through multi-stakeholder exchanges.
Among other sessions of the KIWW, the World Water Partnership aimed at contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (in particular, Goals 6 and 17). This year, World Water Forum host countries discussed how to “Strengthen Equitable Participatory and Accountable Water Governance” and gave future directions for the World Water Partnership to leverage further cooperative actions towards the 9th World Water Forum.
