World Water Council Concludes Advocacy Tour at Asia International Water Week, Strengthening Global Water Security Efforts
The World Water Council recently completed a strategic advocacy mission across Asia and the Middle East, with its final stop at the Asia International Water Week (AIWW). The tour, which included key meetings in Beijing, Abu Dhabi, and Delhi, aimed to strengthen global cooperation on water security and governance.
Throughout the mission, the World Water Council engaged with regional leaders to address the urgent need for sustainable water management. In China, discussions focused on governance-based water security, where the Council held high-level talks with the Chinese Minister of Water Resources. Similar discussions took place with other prominent officials, including the Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Housing, the Minister of Water Resources of Uzbekistan, and Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation.
The Asia International Water Week served as the capstone of this mission, providing the ideal platform for the Council to advocate for "hydro diplomacy"—the idea that international cooperation is critical to solving global water challenges. President of the World Water Council, Mr. Loïc Fauchon, emphasized this point in his address, urging governments and organizations to work together in securing access to safe water for all. He highlighted the potential for water scarcity to fuel conflict and instability if not managed responsibly, calling for a unified effort to tackle this issue.
The Council’s participation in AIWW also opened doors to new partnerships with organizations and actors eager to contribute to water security. The World Water Council used this platform to meet with potential partners who are interested in joining its mission to address the growing water gap worldwide. By fostering dialogue and building new alliances, the Council continues to expand its global influence and drive progress in water governance.
As the advocacy mission comes to a close, the World Water Council remains dedicated to supporting the pivotal role that Asia and the Middle East play in addressing the global water crisis. The organization will continue working closely with its members and partners, further strengthening international cooperation and advancing sustainable water management solutions to meet future challenges.
This successful advocacy tour underlines the World Water Council's commitment to fostering dialogue, encouraging collaboration, and promoting sustainable strategies for water security around the globe.
