Governance

The ultimate authority of the World Water Council is the General Assembly of Members. They are governed by its Constitution and By-Laws.

The General Assembly elects and appoints a maximum of 35 members to the Board of Governors in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws.

The Board of Governors in turn elects the Officers of the Bureau composed of the President, two Vice-Presidents, the Treasurer and the chaipersons of the Commission on Legal and Financial Affairs and the two Committees, on Science and Technology and on Institutions and Governance.

The Bureau and the Executive Director are responsible for the management of World Water Council operations and for decision-making between Board of Governors meetings.

The Commission on Legal and Financial Affairs is in charge of supervising all administrative activities of the Council. The two Committees look after policy issues and the development of Council positions on such issues.

These working bodies meet as frequently as needed. The General Assembly meets at least once every three years in ordinary meetings and as needed in extraordinary meetings.
